Updated June 15th, 2021 by Russ Boswell:Horizon Zero Dawn dropped onto PlayStation 4 back in 2017 but it's still finding adoration from new and old fans alike 4 years later. This is partially thanks to the stellar PC Port that dropped in 2020, as well as more individuals spending time at home and looking for a fantastic adventure to ease their minds. But as good as Horizon Zero Dawn is on the surface, there are still some annoyances and inconsistencies to be found throughout the game. Thankfully, the inclusion of a PC version has allowed modders to swoop in and offer fixes to some of the title's small blemishes. Some of the best Horizon Zero Dawn PC mods are the ones that create a better gameplay experience overall. This list has been updated to better reflect some of the newest Horizon Zero Dawn mods making their way to the release.

The best mods are purple (epic) ones, of course, but the best of them boost multiple stats like damage + handling. You'll start getting them later in the game as well as better gear in The Frozen Wilds add-on.
Weapon and armor modifications are a huge crafting component in Horizon Zero Dawn. Lots of enemies and chests will drop modifications of all sorts, which you can use to augment your dangerous arsenal. But the best mods you'll find in the game are (of course) the rarest of them all -- those sweet, sweet purple mods. These are the rarest of the rare, and supposedly they're hard to find...unless you know a few tricks for farming them.
The most recent Quest entry on this list is for Quake 3 Arena, a classic multiplayer shooter that Team Beef has worked long and hard to bring to Quest 2. Including fully tracked VR weapons, support for 90, 80 and 72Hz framerates and cross-platform play with PC and Android players, this is easily one of the best VR mods yet.
Gatherer, Scavenger,Disarm Traps, Tinker: The first three skills you bought provide the basisfor Horizon's stealth combat, and will serve you well for the opening hours. After that, I recommend making a beeline for the Tinker ability, which allowsyou to remove the stat-boosting mods that you slot into your weapons and armor.Tinker is a heavy investment; it's located at the end of one of the Foragerlines, requiring you to buy three other abilities before you can unlock it. However,it's definitely worth it. You will only acquire a handful of weapons in thegame, but will consistently be finding better and more powerful mods to boostthem. Having the ability to experiment with different combos or effortlesslymove your best mods to a different weapon is a big help. Additionally, theabilities you need to unlock first are also helpful: Gatherer and Scavenger providemore resources from plants and downed foes respectively, and Disarm Traps lets you pick up unused ormisplaced traps.
Make sure you equip some good outfit mods too, the best tactic I found was keeping a couple of different sets of armour on you for different situations. For battles against other humans I suggest going for more fire resistance and stealth modifications to keep yourself guarded against those pesky fire arrows and pyro enemies. Make sure you also keep corruption modifications handy as well as these will help you when trying to take down corrupted machine zones.
